Staats to Host Blood Drive, Drug Take-Back Event Jan. 5 in Quakertown
12/19/2017
HARRISBURG -- Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) will partner with the American Red Cross and the Quakertown Borough Police Department next month when he hosts a community blood drive and drug take-back event at his district office in Quakertown.

“During the winter months, fewer people typically donate blood due to cold or inclement weather, sickness or holiday distractions, but the need for blood does not let up at this time of year,” said Staats. “In fact, winter weather-related road conditions can cause injury accidents that increase demand for blood. This event aims to replenish and stabilize the blood supply at a crucial time of the year.

For planning purposes, blood donors are asked to call ahead at (215) 536-1434 to register, which will ensure ample personnel and supplies. Donors will receive a FREE long sleeve Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last.

“In conjunction with the blood drive, I will be partnering with the Quakertown Police Department in sponsoring a drug take-back program whereby citizens can drop off unwanted or outdated prescription medications. This effort will ensure that the drugs are properly disposed of and will not end up in the wrong hands or in landfills or water supplies where they can threaten public health and aquatic life,” Staats said.

The police will be collecting both prescription and over-the-counter medications in tablets, capsules or liquid, as well as inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays and pet medications. They will not accept injectable drugs, needles or illegal street drugs.
Both events will be held at Staats’ Quakertown office at 10 South Third St. on Friday, Jan. 5, beginning at 10 a.m. The drug take-back program will run until 2 p.m., the blood drive will conclude at 3 p.m.
